“I just feel completely shocked at the outcome of this. His recovery is the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen in my career as a nurse. I feel at a complete loss for words." On a Sunday last November, Josephine Falvey, a nurse in the post-anesthesia unit, performed 7-minutes of life-saving CPR in the middle of a parking lot. Richard Kreis collapsed in what appeared to be a seizure as Falvey arrived for work. Falvey turned him sideways and checked his pulse, found none, and immediately started chest compression for 3 minutes. When some Emergency Department staff arrived, Falvey had just finished her third round of CPR. Responders quickly got Richard Kreis on a gurney and rushed him to the ED, performing CPR the entire way. Once there, a team treated him for cardiac arrest and performed defibrillation followed by a Tenecteplase, a medication used to break apart blood clots. Cardiologists then performed catheterization, threading a small tube through a blood vessel to the heart, identifying the likely location of the blockage, and implanted an arterial stent. After a heart attack, a patient faces a significant risk of neurological damage, especially the longer their brain goes without oxygen. Richard and his wife were now focused on recovery. By Thursday, Richard's breathing tube had been removed, his voice was hoarse and his throat sore, but his spirits were high. “We are so grateful to Jo and for the many miracles we have been granted through this ordeal,” said Trish Kreis. “We can’t say enough good things about the Emergency Department personnel, the care Richard has received from all the staff and, of course, about Jo who literally saved his life.” Read more about this incredible story: https://lnkd.in/gAW3uzQ3

"Nov. 11 is a day dedicated to celebrating and honoring those who served in the military. Veterans personify the essence of true leaders who serve through their willingness to place the needs of others above their own, often at great personal sacrifice. Their commitment to protect and uphold freedoms – while prioritizing the well-being of the nation – mirrors the principles of selfless service. Recognizing the contributions of veterans reminds us of the power of leadership in action and serves as a call to all leaders to embrace humility, service, and compassion in their roles. In this way, Veteran's Day becomes both a day of gratitude and a day of service – selfless acts that enable us all to prosper, create solidarity, increase awareness, embrace inclusivity, and foster respect and appreciation for one another." Newly appointed vice chair of the Veteran’s Employee Association, Gregory Stanford, reflects on the meaning of #VeteransDay:
