With more than one in 10 babies in the U.S. born preterm, Medical City Dallas Hospital is supporting the 20th anniversary of the March of Dimes’ Prematurity Awareness Month in November. Today, we highlight Ezekiel Lynn, who was born more than two months prematurely in May 2023. He left the hospital this week after being at Medical City Children’s Hospital for 20 months. Born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, he weighed 1.7 kilograms at birth and today tips the scales at more than 10 pounds. Doctors, nurses and other caregivers lined the hallways to say goodbye through smiles and tears. “You can’t be here with us for 613 days and not be family,” Mark Clay, MD, said to Ezekiel’s parents as they left the congenital heart ICU. “So, we give him back to you all but look forward to seeing you again.” To learn more about congenital heart disease go to https://bit.ly/3OvAku1 #WeShowUp #CareLikeFamily

Thanks to the five Medical City Healthcare hospitals that helped collect more than 2,100 pounds of medication as part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. These events helped raise awareness about the dangers of prescription drug misuse and the importance of proper disposal of medications. A big thank you to our law enforcement partners from the Arlington Police Department, Dallas Police Department, City of Denton Police Department, Irving Police Department and McKinney Police Department, who collected the unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications. #HealthierTomorrows #TakeBackDay

Medical City Healthcare recently donated $5,000 to support the March of Dimes and Prematurity Awareness Month 💜. We are proud of our colleague Alexis Burnett, HCA Healthcare VP of surgical services, who ran 29 miles last Saturday from Medical City Alliance, site of her preterm labor, to Medical City Lewisville, site of her NICU journey, in honor of her son, Ash, and in memory of his twin brother, Hudson. It’s often said there is no “i” in “team.” There is also no “i” in how Katy Kirksey, Medical City Denton case management director, spells her name. However, Katy deserves a capital “I” for inspiring us all with her compassionate response during a mass casualty accident this summer, along with her many volunteer and community activities. Recently, Medical City Healthcare President Allen Harrison and our division senior leaders honored Katy with the President’s Award for Leadership Excellence. Congratulations to Katy for setting the bar with your #HealthcareExcellence.
